I'm your dream.....make you real......I'm your eyes when you must steal.....I'm your pain when you can't feel.....Sad but true...... I'm your truth telling lies.....I'm your reason, alibis.....I'm inside, open your eyes...............I'm YOU!!!!

I'm one of those funny people who don't reaaly like to categorise themselves as far as musical tastes go. I've always kept quite an open mind (and ear) and will listen to anything as long as it's got a good tune.

This has caused me no end of ridicule over the last few years because my record and CD collection reflect this quite liberal approach. I'll not tell you exactly which record gets the most laughs, but let's just say the band in question were 'famous' and didn't 'Owe you nothing' !!!!! (I swear  a DJ gave me it when I lived in Hinckley :~)  )

I do however have a tendency to like heavy rock/metal more than anything else. A friend of mine introduced me to AC/DC, Iron Maiden, Saxon etc. when I was just a snap of a lad aged 12. Within minutes I was hooked.

Metallica - I'd heard a few of their records and quite liked them since 1985 or so when I used to go to Romeo's nigth club. But after joining  a band in 1990 ('4 what it's worth' ), the obsession truly began. One of the other guitarists, Rick, was well hooked and it quickly rubbed off on me. We used to get to practice early and jam all the songs we could figure out. (Seek and Destroy, For whom the bell tolls, Four Horsemen etc.) Since then I've learnt to play virtually every song they've ever recorded and seen them live 15 times (3 times in one month in 1990).

Here's a recording of yours truly playing the intro to 'Ronnie', and for those with nowt better to do, my abridged version of 'Four Horsemen'

AC/DC - Angus Young was an early guitar hero of mine. After listening to the live versions of 'Let there be rock' and the classic 'Whole Lotta Rosie', I decided to resurrect my battered old acoustic (one string left on) and learn to play.

Linkin Park - A 'Nu-Metal' band just recently on the scene, their album 'Hybrid Theory' is outstanding. Not since hearing 'Tallica's 'Master of puppets' have I liked every single song on a record. Fresh, powerful and melodic.

Marilyn Manson - Personally, I think he's a complete weirdo, but the music is excellent. Deep thumping riffs and provocative lyrics to boot.

Snap - Don't think I ever heard a record by Snap that I didn't like. They always bring back memories of boozy nights in German nightclubs and stereo wars on a Saturday morning.

Pachobel - My inclusion of this chap is two fold. Firstly, his peice, 'Canon' is my favourite classical work by far. And secondly, to indicate that I do actually like classical music. Composers who I tend to listen to art Mozart, Beethoven and Wagner, but there are many other individual works that I like.

Megadeth - Fast, exciting, melodic. Saw them do a gig at Rock City in Nottingham last year. Must have lost 30lbs.

Steve Vai - First heard of Vai when I saw the film "Crossroads" with Ralph Machio. After that there was no stopping me. Feelings of deep joy when I finally managed to play "For the love of God" on my BC.

Mel C - Always thought she was the  m ost talented one in the Spice Girls, and now she's proved it.

Travis - One of those bands that just seem to hit the right notes every time. Extremely depressing songs, but catchy enough to make you sing your head off whilst stuck in a 10 mile tailback on the M62.

Dream Academy - One song, and one song only. 'Life in a Northern town'. Sampled a couple of years ago by Dario G for 'Sunchime', the original was wicked.

Thin Lizzy - Phil and the gang were way ahead of their time and are ever timeless.

Robbie Williams - A phenomenon. Most of blokes should hate him for having everything that we haven't. (Money, girls etc). But instead he's omni-popular. Churning out hit after hit, can the man do no wrong?
